Corrosion, Protections, Repair Preparations
The Building Materials Laboratory offers tests of products and systems for protection and repair of concrete structures and for anti-corrosion protection of steel structures and metal products.
We test:
- concrete surface protection systems in accordance with PN-EN 1504-2, including:
- hydrophobic impregnation,
- impregnation,
- coating systems; - products for structural and non-structural repairs of concrete in accordance with PN-EN 1504-3;
- injection products for repair and protection of concrete structures in accordance with PN-EN 1504-5, used for:
- force transmitting filling of cracks, voids or interstices in concrete,
- ductile filling of cracks, voids or interstices in concrete,
- swelling fitted filling of cracks, voids or interstices in concrete; - products and systems for reinforcement corrosion protection in accordance with PN-EN 1504-7;
- coating materials and systems for exterior masonry and concrete for the purposes of classification under PN-EN 1062-1;
- polymer, polymer-cement and mineral coatings on concrete;
- paints and varnishes systems for anti-corrosion protection of steel structures in accordance with PN-EN ISO 12944,
- products and systems for protection of aluminium surfaces, including:
- powder coats and varnishes in accordance with PN-EN 12206-1,
- anode coatings; - metallic, organic, paint and varnish coatings;
- continuously organic coated steel sheets products in accordance with PN-EN 10169;
- continuously hot-dip coated steel sheets products in accordance with PN-EN 10346,
- stainless steels in accordance with PN-EN 10088-2,
- fire retardant systems for durability;
including:
- laboratory tests for products and systems introduced to the market:
- confirming compliance with standards,
- for the purposes of National Technical Assessments,
- on site (in situ) tests for the purposes of assessments and expert opinions.
We determine, among others:
- thermal compatibility,
- adhesion, bond strength by pull-off,
- resistance to carbonation,
- water permeability under increased pressure,
- capillary absorption,
- corrosion susceptibility of reinforcing steel,
- appearance (e.g. colour change, gloss etc.),
- resistance to UV light, salt spray, SO2, humidity,
- resistance to chemicals,
- abrasion resistance,
- linear thermal expansion coefficient,
- numerous identification characteristics of products (e.g. density, viscosity, pot life, Infrared analysis – IR spectrum, non-volatile substance content etc.)
- diffusion of steam, CO2, chloride ions,
- impact resistance, slip resistance,
- loss of mass after freeze-thaw cycles in the presence of salt,
- crack bridging properties,
- effectiveness of protection of reinforcing steel against corrosion,
- compressive strength and flexural strength,
- tightness of anti-corrosion coatings,
- resistance to cracking,
- hardness,
- cupping index.
The Institute’s Group of Testing Laboratories has been accredited by the Polish Centre for Accreditation for over 10 years (accreditation No AB 023) for testing products and systems used for protection and repair of concrete as well as protection of steel structures and metal products against corrosion.
In addition to the tests, we also provide assessments and expert opinions, including opinions used as court evidence.
We provide services for:
- manufacturers,
- contractors,
- state authorities and offices,
- courts.
The Building Research Institute is a Notified Body No 1488 carrying out tasks described in Regulation (EU) No 305/2011 of the European Parliament and of the Council.
