Thermal Physics, Thermal Insulations

We perform tests of:

  • construction materials and products for thermal insulation
  • windows, doors, roof windows, skylights, roof hatches, gates, insulating glass panes
  • sandwich panels
  • bricks and masonry units, masonry mortars
  • metal and glass curtain walls
  • air supply devices

In our laboratory in Katowice:

  • systems for pre-insulated pipes
  • products for thermal insulation in construction industry and products for thermal insulation of building equipment and industrial systems, including products made of: EPS, XPS, PUR/PIR, MW, FEF, CG, CS, PEF, PF;

We determine among other:

  • thermal conductivity and thermal resistance of materials and products for thermal insulation
  • thermal resistance and thermal conductivity coefficient (using the heat flow computer simulation method or at a test rig)
  • characteristics related to transportation of steam, absorption of steam at long-term diffusion by products to thermal insulation, e.g. roof slabs and terraces with reversed system of thermal insulation and waterproof layers and foundation walls
  • humidity, absorption and desorption of humidity, absorptiveness
  • freeze-thaw resistance
  • dimensional features, dimensional stability under specific constant or laboratory temperature and humidity conditions
  • behaviour of thermal insulation products during compression, bending, concentrated load, tensile strength perpendicular to face surfaces
  • products’ water resistance and air leakage and flow characteristics of air supply devices
  • emissivity of coatings on window panels’ surfaces

We provide assessment in the following areas:

  • evaluation of the energy efficiency of buildings
  • criteria for the evaluation of thermal insulation products
  • product properties and performance
  • thermal and moisture properties of space dividers, rooms and buildings
  • assessment of the condition of heating, cooling, ventilation, and air conditioning systems
  • assessment of the design solutions of building systems
  • causes of surface fungal decay
  • thermal calculation of windows, doors, space dividers
